Berlin: what to visit, where to go (I)

I'm back with a new post and this time is less about me and more about this gorgeous city I'm living in: Berlin. I have to admit that when I moved here I was quite skeptical about it. Moving from a small city in the Netherlands to one that's 9 times bigger than Paris was quite a challenge. Do I even have to mention I don't speak German? One year later, I don't think I could have made a better choice! Here I have a bit of everything: I have Parisian chic streets in the West, and streets that remind me of Romania in the East, I have rich cultural diversity and more parks and lakes to go then I have days off.
Sometimes we tend to forget how beautiful the cities we live in are, following the daily routine it all seams normal. Luckily I had friends visiting and I had to show them around, playing the guide and then I thought Berlin deserves a proper post. Enjoy!

Charlottenburg/Ku'Damm
This part of town is definitely my favorite one, mostly because of Kurfurstendamm which is basically Berlin's Champs-Élysées. You get where I'm going? Here was my first touch-point with Berlin, since I lived really really close to Ku'Damm and I quickly discovered the 3.5km filled with designer stores on both sides. I think I remember once drooling in front of Chanel, yep! It's quite popular among tourists, I have to say, and it is so because it has it all: from Saint Laurent to Forever 21, lots of hotels and restaurants - I once went to a beach bar. Indoors. It had sand everywhere. I guess I said enough. Going back to the stores, here's also KaDeWe, also known as the biggest shopping center in (continental) Europe where you can find everything high-end, from make-up, clothes, shoes and food. I just hope your credit card can handle it!

How to get there: U-Bahn Wittenbergplatz (U1, U2, U3)

Potsdamer Platz
We're right in the middle of Potsdamer Platz, the busiest traffic intersection in Europe, home of the first traffic lights in Europe. Things are quite hectic down there since so  many tourist are constantly on the streets going from Checkpoint Charlie to Brandenburger Tor and stopping along the way to admire the skyscrapers and remaining parts of the wall.

How to get there: U/S Potsdamer Platz (U2, S1, S2, S25)

Brandenburger Tor
Walking from Potsdamer Platz, passing by Holocaust Memorial on the right and Tiergarten on the left, in 10 minutes you're right in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Needless to say, it's one of the iconic symbols of Berlin (along with the Television Tower) and the last one standing out of the 18th gates that surrounded the old city. A must see when you visit Berlin!

Museum Island
Unter den Linden is the boulevard that connects Brandenburger Gate to Stadtschloss (castle currently being built) and Museum Island - home of 5 world renowned museums surrounded by the river Spree and awarded with the UNESCO World Heritage Status. I had the chance to visit most of them during the Long Night of the Museums, otherwise it might get quite pricy to visit all of them. In the pictures bellow you can also see the Berliner Dom - high-renaissance baroque building housing the Hohenzollern family tomb. Quite, quite impressive!

How to get there: S Hackescher Markt (S5, S7, S75)

  14. Amazing Pics friend! These places are the most famous attraction in Germany. I really like you sharing and images. It looks like a historical place in this country. I want to go in Museum Island on next year during my tour new year. This museum is the most famous and historical attraction for all visitors. I'm also history lover.
